Dax Shepard is once again clearing the air surrounding the lingering rumor that he and wife Kristen Bell are \u201cHollywood swingers.”\n
The Armchair Expert podcaster shot down the accusation \u2014 and revealed the hilarious way the couple\u2019s friends like Jimmy Kimmel poked fun at the suggestion \u2014 during the season 5 premiere of The Drew Barrymore Show on Monday.
\n\u201cThere was the most exciting tabloid story that we were Hollywood swingers and we hosted swing parties, this was in the tabloids,\u201d Shepard explained. \u201cMy favorite part of that happening was we got a lot of texts from other friends of ours saying, \u2018How could you not have invited me to the swinger party?\u2019\u201d\n

He explained that although their friends were \u201cteasing, of course, because they know us and they know we are not hosting swinger parties,\u201d their good humor about the situation was very much appreciated.\n
\u201cI just thought that was great to receive a text from Kimmel saying, \u2018My feelings are quite hurt that Molly [McNearney, his wife] and I weren\u2019t invited to this swingers party,\u2019\u201d Shepard added. \u201c[It] was very funny.\u201d\n
When Barrymore asked if there was \u201canyone that you two do fantasize about getting in bed with,\u201d Shepard wasn\u2019t so certain. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of hot couples out there, but no, we have not crossed that divide with anyone,\u201d he said. \u201cYou know who we are most in love with? We\u2019re in love with Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen.\u201d\n
He continued, \u201cOh my God, they are so dreamy as a couple. You just kind of want to be in their marriage. It\u2019s not so much that Kristen even wants to bring me along or I want to bring her along \u2014 you just want to be in their marriage.\u201d\n
Shepard and Bell, who married in 2013, have spoken out against the swinging accusations before. Bell previously explained on a 2023 episode of Armchair Expert that she believes the rumor started because Shepard frequently makes \u201ckey-party jokes” whenever they have people over.\n
\u201cWe’ll have a dinner party or something and, as we’re sitting down, you’ll say, \u2018Everybody leave your keys,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cLike, you use it as a joke.\u201d\n
Shepard explained that he\u2019s also delivered the line to multiple podcast guests only to later realize that \u201cwe do not have the same sense of humor,\u201d adding, \u201cI was like, \u2018Hey, if you guys are ever in L.A. and you wanna swing!\u2019\u201d\n
In general, Bell said that \u201ca lot of people don\u2019t get jokes.\u201d She continued, \u201cThat\u2019s actually something I have been thinking about lately, because it\u2019s such a bummer that everything you say has to be taken so literally that there\u2019s no room for fun in expression or language anymore when you\u2019re telling a story, because you better have the facts right.
