It’s always heartbreaking to see a dog having a tumor, especially one that has gone unchecked and untreated. Tumors can grow sh0ckingly large, leading to a great deal of discomfort for these poor animals.

Like one dog, who was surrendered to a shelter with a massive tumor, but with some kind rescuers, this dog has now gotten a second chance.

A dog called Hattie was surrendered by her owners to a local shelter, and they were in sh0ck to see the massive tumor on the dog’s side.

The owner was apparently surrendering Hattie for eu:than:asi:a, but instead Hattie was given a second chance. Needing a lot of care, she was taken to Dallas DogRRR – Rescue.Rehab.Reform, who were shocked by the dog’s condition.

In a post on Facebook they said it “may be the worst owner surrender we have taken in,” and said Hattie’s owners let the tumor grow for two years without doing anything about it. No charges were filed.

While Hattie’s health was clearly neglected by her family, she was now in good hands. The rescue scheduled Hattie a surgery with Vet Ranch.

In spite of everything she went through, vets found Hattie to be in good spirits. A vet explained that she has learned to live with the massive weight on her side

“It’s just so sad to me that she’s used to just dealing with this,” Hattie’s vet said in a video shared by Vet Clinic. “She just goes day in and day out dealing with this like it’s a bean bag chair, even though she has this on her.”

Vets performed the surgery to remove the giant tumor. Dr. Karri of vet ranch wrote on Facebook that it took “three hours to get that beast off,” but the surgery was a success and Hattie was “resting comfortably.”

“She was 41 lbs and now only weighs 26!” the vet wrote. “I can’t wait to see how her personality changes without carrying this burden anymore.”

After Hattie’s story went viral on the social media, followers asked for an update about Hattie’s health — and Dallas DogRRR reported that the sweet dog had a very happy ending.

They wrote that in the year since Hattie’s “bowling ball size tumor” was removed, she has found a loving home!

“She was happily adopted, and once again, a lost and abandoned animal has found their happy ending,” the rescue wrote.

Photos show Hattie in her new home: she seems happy and comfortable and has another dog to play with.

What Exactly Are Millipedes! https://legendstitch.com/what-exactly-are-millipedes/ Mon, 04 Nov 2024 09:04:28 +0000 https://legendstitch.com/?p=96988 The Hidden Life of Millipedes: Nature’s Cleanup Crew

A diplopod, commonly known as a millipede, is a fascinating arthropod characterized by its long, segmented body and numerous pairs of legs—often mistaken for centipedes, but with some distinct differences. Millipedes thrive in damp, dark environments, typically found beneath logs, rocks, and layers of leaf litter, as well as within soil.

They often venture indoors, making appearances in basements, crawl spaces, or bathrooms where moisture levels are high.

Millipedes primarily feed on decaying plant material, playing a vital role in breaking down organic matter and enhancing soil health. Their natural recycling abilities contribute to nutrient-rich soil, promoting a healthy ecosystem.

Managing Millipede Encounters

If you find yourself dealing with a millipede invasion, here are some effective management strategies:

  • Reduce Moisture: Keep areas dry by addressing leaks and improving ventilation. Millipedes are drawn to moisture, so a drier environment makes your space less appealing to them.
  • Clean Up: Regularly remove decaying organic matter, such as leaves and compost, and declutter areas where millipedes may hide. This not only deters them but also promotes cleanliness.
  • Seal Entry Points: Inspect your home for gaps and cracks, particularly around doors, windows, and foundations. Sealing these entry points can help prevent millipedes from making their way indoors.
  • Use Traps or Pesticides: If necessary, consider employing traps or insecticides designed for crawling insects. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for safe and effective use.

By following these steps, you can effectively prevent and control millipede infestations, allowing you to coexist with these fascinating creatures while keeping your home comfortable.

Why You Should Never Chase Away This Creature If You Find One… https://legendstitch.com/why-you-should-never-chase-away-this-creature-if-you-find-one/ Fri, 01 Nov 2024 15:26:55 +0000 https://legendstitch.com/?p=96869 Why We Should Never Chase Away House Geckos and Lizards
Some animals have superpowers — and geckos are example! Starting with their sticky toe pads and their ability to cling to walls and ceilings, ending with their exceptional nocturnal color vision. When people see geckos in their garden, many want to get rid of it as soon as possible.

Here are 5 reasons you should stop doing this.

Geckos can feed on dangerous insects.

All reptiles are believed by some people to be dangerous. There are many reptiles that are not dangerous to humans, and some species can even be beneficial — just like common house geckos. They feed on insects that can often be harmful — cockroaches, moths, flies, spiders, termites, and wasps.

If geckos live in your garden, it probably means it’s an ecologically clean area.

Many chemicals can be toxic for geckos, so if these reptiles come to your place — it’s a good sign. It means that your garden is ecologically-friendly.

And insects can evolve to resist insecticides, so they might either never leave your garden at all or come back to it as soon as the insecticides evaporate. Therefore, a more natural way to get rid of these pests in the garden is to let the geckos do their job.

Geckos won’t eat anything from your garden, unlike birds.

These nimble tailed creatures won’t eat any berries, fruits or vegetables in your garden. That’s where they differ from birds which also feed on pests, but who also like the berries or edible fruits you might be growing.

Birds may seem sweeter and more harmless, but in reality, they can simply peck up your entire crop, while lizards, on the contrary, can protect it.

They aren’t dangerous to humans.

It might seem like geckos have superpowers because they can crawl up the ceilings and make weird noises during the night, but they’re actually not that scary at all.

Common house geckos are not venomous and pose no threat to humans (though they can bite when distressed), and they actually provide a service by feeding on pests around and outside your house.

Geckos can carry salmonella, which is easy to avoid.

Geckos can transmit salmonella, just like many other reptiles. And it’s not through biting, but through their feces. So if you find gecko excrement on something, you should wash it off well and, of course, you shouldn’t kiss them (or cats, dogs, and other animals).

Do you know of any other helpful animals that are usually mistreated? We’d be happy to see your comments in the section below!
