Mother Nature is full of surprises. One of them is the Clathrus archeri mushroom, quite strange and even a little creepy. It is also known as “devil’s fingers”.

In fact, when you see it, you immediately understand what we are talking about. The native home of “these” fingers is New Zealand, Tasmania and Australia. In truth, this plant looks like a living creature, and not at all like a mushroom. Its relatives are also distinguished by the way it is born. While all mushrooms break through the soil, this one is born in a sac similar to an egg. It is especially creepy when you see how it breaks through its shell. And then 4 to 8 tentacles of a strange appearance appear.

The bright pink surface with pimples and a specific smell attracts flies. Then these insects spread the spores of the fungus and it multiplies.

The mushroom has another name — «octopus tentacles». No more pleasant, but at least not so sinister. They literally tear their birth shell with their claws. And then 4 to 8 tentacles of a strange appearance appear. The bright pink surface with pimples and a specific smell attracts flies. Then these insects spread the spores of the mushroom and it reproduces.

According to the encyclopedia, the only edible phase of the mushroom is the egg, but it can only be eaten in the wild in survival conditions. In general, it is better to abstain, look for berries!
